| First draft of 2021 budget envisages deficit of CZK 116 billion |

| In a first draft of the state budget for 2021, the minister of finance, Alena Schillerová, plans a deficit of CZK 116 billion. However, the deficit is likely to increase greatly before MPs actually approve next year’s budget because of further measures linked to the coronavirus crisis. In addition, the first draft does not include a shortfall of up to CZK 90 billion that will be caused by a reform of the country’s income tax system.
The budget deficit for this year has been increased repeatedly since the coronavirus hit the Czech Republic. It was initially planned at CZK 40 billion but now stands at CZK 500 billion.
