| Employment dropped for the third consecutive quarter, however, the downward rate in the number of employees slowed down to 2,2 % |

| The decline in the performance of the Slovak economy was also reflected in the development of employment during the 3rd quarter. The number of employees 1) according to the Labor Force Sample Survey (LFSS) reached 2 529,4 thousand in the 3rd quarter. Employment was lower by 2,2 % year-on-year, which represented a decrease by 55,7 thousand persons. After six years of growth, employment was decreasing for the third consecutive quarter.
However, the downward rate in employment affected by the corona crisis slowed down compared with the previous quarter, with the number of employees declining by 2,5 % year- on-year in the 2nd quarter. The current development was influenced by the increased activity of state-supported enterprises to maintain employment.
Compared to the 2 nd quarter of 2020, the seasonally adjusted total employment decreased by only 1,9 thousand persons, quarter-on-quarter (by 0,1%). The employment rate 2) expressing the share of employees in the total population dropped by 1 p.p. to 72,4 %, compared with the 3rd quarter of 2019. After deducting persons working abroad, employment in Slovakia decreased by 2 % to 2 405,6 thousand persons.
