Bratislava, 25.01.2021 |
|
On Friday, 22 January 2021 the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Ingrid Brocková, talked with the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of China, Qin Gang, about the initiative of China to summon a summit of Central and Eastern European countries with China, also known as the 17+1.
The summit of the leaders of seventeen countries of Central and Eastern Europe with China should be held on 9 February 2021 via video conference under the lead of the President of China Xi Jinping. Originally, the summit should have been held in person in Beijing in April of last year, but it was postponed several times due to the pandemic. The 17+1 leaders’ summit is held regularly once a year, but due to the ongoing pandemic the last one was held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in 2019.
„Slovakia considers the cooperation with China in the 17+1 format to be a platform, the objective of which are concrete economic projects with concrete results, as well as a complement to the cooperation at the EU-China level, while fully respecting and complying with the rules of the European Union,” stated State Secretary Brocková.
