Without stabilizing gas prices and sufficient gas prices, it will not be possible to produce malt in Slovakia. According to him, maltsters are asking the government to take the same measures as the surrounding EU countries in order to maintain competitiveness.
He specified that Slovak maltsters are asking the Slovak government to urgently seek a solution to mitigate the extremely growing effects of gas prices on production companies in the Slovak food industry. Gas prices have risen by more than 200% year-on-year. Gas is a key energy in the production of malt, without which it is not possible to produce beer. According to Machalík, malt is also the most important Slovak export agricultural commodity after the first processing.
The moisture content of the finished malt at the end of production is only 4.5%.
As part of the reduction of CO2 emissions, some malting plants have their own cogeneration units, which use them to generate electricity from gas.
"Slovakia must prepare for the onset of the energy crisis.
The state cannot leave gas prices for food producers without a solution, ”Machalík explained.
If other EU countries find aid solutions for their food sector and Slovakia does not, it will further disadvantage our competitiveness.
