In Slovakia, we have a relatively high number of artificially created self-employed persons |

There are more and more forced trades in Slovakia, people do not choose them voluntarily. Some companies are currently requiring their workers to choose self-employed work and to renounce the benefits that would be provided to them as permanent employees by the Labour Code. This was pointed out by the Institute of Social Democracy (ISD) together with the Association of Socio-Economic Analysts. The Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic plans to deal with the problem."In Slovakia, we have a relatively high number of artificially created sole traders. Their main motivation is, on the one hand, the optimization of social and health contributions and the application of lump-sum expenses instead of proper taxation of their income from work, but on the other hand, it is the pressure from employers to optimize employment costs and increase profits," said Martin Halás from ISD.
He added that the consequence of this phenomenon is the reduction of the protection of workers by the Labour Code and the lowering of the standard of protection of workers in the event of loss of employment or incapacity for work. Last but not least, social and pension benefits are currently well below the poverty line. According to him, some employers artificially undervalue self-employed people and it is only a matter of time before they get into a situation where they will not be entitled to sufficient social support.
