| The low level of the minimum wage is the reason why the population in Slovakia is exposed to poverty. According to the Institute of Social Democracy (ISD), old-age pensions will fall by up to 30% in the future. This was pointed out by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ISD, Martin Halás.The minimum wage should be one of the guarantors of the social rights of Slovaks, which will ensure that they will not work and live in lifelong poverty. Unfortunately, this is not the case in Slovakia. Currently, the average old-age pension makes up only 42.4% of the average wage," said Halás.Halás explained that people who currently work for the minimum wage would receive a pension of only 318 euros per month in the future, which represents 69% of the level on the income poverty line. "The income poverty threshold was calculated for a one-person household at the level of 460 euros, which is a difference of 143 euros per month," he specified.
