The president signed the law on the minimum wage |
Bratislava, 08.11.2024 |
|
On Thursday, President Peter Pellegrini signed a law on the minimum wage, which will increase to at least 60% of the average nominal monthly wage in the national economy from 2026. The president's office informed about this on its website.
"The proposed change results from the Programme Statement of the Government of the Slovak Republic for the years 2023 to 2027," the Ministry of Labour said.
Such a minimum wage has already been in force in the past, but the percentage was reduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, according to the submitter, it is necessary to return to this regulation. The aim is to create decent living and working conditions, support collective bargaining of employees and the conclusion of collective agreements.
The amendment also brings a renewed extension of the binding nature of a representative collective agreement of a higher level to other employers in the sector. Such an adjustment was also already in force until 2021, when it was abolished. The aim of the change is to increase the coverage of employees in Slovakia through collective bargaining and collective agreements.
