U.S. tariffs on imports of goods from Germany will be felt hard by Central Europe |
Amsterdam, 15.11.2024 |

The planned changes in US trade policy will significantly affect the countries of Central Europe, despite the fact that the direct connection between the economies is not high. This was stated by economists from the ING bank, cited by Reuters.
"These countries are most significantly exposed to US pressure due to their strong links with the German economy and a high focus on the automotive sector. In the future, this seems to be the worst possible combination," said analysts from ING. At the same time, they added that market forecasts for the recovery of the economy in the CEE region next year are too optimistic and the bank expects "further negative surprises".
The value of car exports from Germany to the United States reached 23.41 billion euros last year, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Car exports from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania to Germany recorded 18.92 billion euros over the same period. However, the value of car exports from Central Europe to the United States via Germany is not reported by Eurostat or the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The risks for Central Europe associated with the introduction of import tariffs, which the winner of the US presidential election, Donald Trump, promised in the election campaign, were also pointed out by the chairman of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, András Savos. "If the president-elect fulfills his promises, it will mean another blow to the German economy. And the intervention in the German economy will have an exponential impact on the Hungarian economy," Savos said.odkaz na stránku |
