The joint declaration on the partnership between the EU and Switzerland represents another important step forward in relations between the two sides. This was announced on Tuesday evening by the European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maroš Šefčovič, reports the Brussels correspondent of TASR.
Šefčovič made the announcement during a joint press conference after signing the joint declaration on the partnership between the EU and Switzerland. The declaration was signed on behalf of the Swiss side by Federal President Ignazio Cassis.
“The joint declaration that we have just signed represents another important step forward between the EU and Switzerland. It follows on from the European Commission’s proposal from the beginning of this month to sign and conclude a comprehensive package of agreements that we negotiated last year,” explained the Slovak European Commissioner.
According to Šefčovič, the aforementioned package of agreements is the key to modernizing and deepening bilateral relations between the two close neighbors and important trading partners. He specified that, once ratified, these agreements will bring real benefits to citizens and businesses on both sides.
“Today’s declaration confirms our shared commitment to strengthen cooperation in critical areas while the ratification process is ongoing,” Šefčovič stressed. He added that this cooperation is already delivering tangible results. He recalled that in the field of research, transitional arrangements already allow Swiss entities to apply for research and training calls under the Horizon Europe and Euratom programmes under the EU budget for 2025.
This means that once the agreement is signed, which is planned for later this year, Swiss participants will have full access to EU funds. In the field of land transport, he said, both sides agreed to extend the transitional arrangements with the EU Agency for Railways, thus ensuring seamless rail transport between the EU and Switzerland.
The agreements also apply to the health sector, where the protection of citizens is a priority for both parties. In the event of serious cross-border threats, the European Commission and Switzerland are ready to coordinate their actions quickly through ad hoc mechanisms.
Šefčovič stressed that the EU will fully support the process of rapid ratification of the agreements and expressed the hope that the Federal Council on the Swiss side will do the same.odkaz na stránku |
