BRICS is an adversary of the US that wants to damage the US dollar
Washington, 31.07.2025
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (July 30) described the BRICS group of countries as an adversary of the US that wants to threaten the dollar's position as the world's reserve currency. TASR reports this based on a report by the TASS agency. "They have BRICS, which is basically a group of countries that are against the United States, and India is a member of it," Trump told reporters at the White House when asked about the tariffs he plans to impose on India. The BRICS are attacking the dollar and we "will not allow anyone to attack the dollar," he stressed. Earlier on Wednesday, Trump announced that the United States would impose a 25 percent tariff on imports from India effective Friday (August 1). He accused the government in New Delhi of maintaining unfair trade practices that disadvantage American businesses, while also criticizing it for its military and energy ties with Russia. “They have always bought the vast majority of their military equipment from Russia and are the largest customer of Russian energy, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the killing in Ukraine,” Trump said. On July 8, the US president threatened to impose 10% tariffs on BRICS members, stressing that the US would never allow the dollar to lose its status as the world’s reserve currency. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on July 15 that the BRICS countries were looking for alternatives to dollar-based trade agreements to insure themselves against US abuse of the currency’s status, and this process could no longer be stopped. odkaz na stránku
