Japanese government considering 6% minimum wage increase |
Tokio, 05.08.2025 |
 |
Japan's labor ministry on Monday proposed a 6 percent increase in the average minimum wage this fiscal year, the largest increase since 2002. TASR reported this based on a Reuters report.
Achieving real wage growth has become a priority for the Tokyo government at a time when persistent inflation continues to raise the cost of living for households. Implementing the proposal would raise the average minimum wage to 1,118 Japanese yen (6.51 euros) per hour, a labor ministry official said. This would surpass last year's 5 percent increase and would be the largest increase since the current system was introduced 23 years ago.
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba set a goal last year of achieving a 42 percent increase in the average minimum wage to 1,500 JPY per hour by the end of this decade. The sharp wage increase poses a risk to small businesses, which employ about 70% of Japan's workforce, as they already allocate a larger share of their profits to wages than their larger competitors, Reuters warned.odkaz na stránku
