Two-thirds of people in Slovakia have trouble making ends meet on their salary |

In Slovakia, two-thirds of employees have trouble making ends meet on their salary. This is an increase from 59% to 67% year-on-year. Most people have trouble making ends meet on their income in eastern Slovakia, a total of 71%. In the case of the Bratislava region, 61% said so. This is according to the JobsIndex survey by Alma Career.
"Less than a tenth report major problems, only three percent find it very easy to make ends meet. Almost nine out of ten workers who earn less than 800 euros a month have trouble making ends meet on their salary," the company said, adding that basic manual positions without higher qualifications and those working in services and trade have the biggest problems. On the contrary, specialists with a technical focus and top management are doing best.
In addition to regular monthly expenses, it is also a good idea to have a reserve for possible unexpected expenses, in case a large appliance, car or paying a higher amount for healthcare breaks down. The survey showed that unexpected expenses amount to 540 euros, while the number of people for whom they would pose a problem has increased year-on-year. 29% of working people could not afford such an expense, while a year ago it was 21%. Another 35% could afford it, but with problems, and only a third of employees do not find this expense difficult.
“Education level is often directly proportional to earnings, and this is also evident in unexpected expenses. While half of workers with a university degree can afford to pay it without any problems, this is the case for a third of those with a secondary education and a high school diploma, and for people with primary education or secondary education without a high school diploma, an unplanned expense will not cause difficulties for only a quarter,” the company added.
The gender pay gap also affects unexpected payments. 24% of men and 36% of women cannot afford to pay a large expense for a broken appliance or car repair.
