| The draft law on AI is headed for discussion by the Legislative Council of the Government |

| The Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization (MIRRI) of the Slovak Republic is moving forward with the draft law on artificial intelligence (AI) after incorporating the amendments. It more clearly divides the state's competences, sets supervision over artificial intelligence and rules for data management. At the same time, it does not count on the creation of a new central body. The key tasks will be provided by the existing state structures headed by MIRRI. The draft law is now headed for discussion by the Legislative Council of the Government of the Slovak Republic and subsequently by the Economic and Social Council of the Slovak Republic. TASR was informed about this by the MIRRI communications department.
The draft law responds to the obligations that Slovakia has under European legislation, in particular the Act on Artificial Intelligence, the Data Act and the Data Management Act. Its aim is to create a clear and functional framework for the application of European rules in the conditions of the Slovak Republic.
One of the key changes in the revised draft is the setting up of the system without creating a new central state administration body. Slovakia will thus not build another independent office, but will use the existing structures and capacities of the state. MIRRI, together with other relevant authorities, will play a key role in the performance of state administration in the field of artificial intelligence and in the central management and administration of data.
"We do not want to create another office. Our duty is to ensure compliance with European rules, but we want to do it efficiently - to make maximum use of existing state structures and set up the system so that it is functional, understandable and does not create unnecessary administration," said Radoslav Štefánek, the Plenipotentiary of the Government of the Slovak Republic for Artificial Intelligence.
In the field of artificial intelligence, the proposal more clearly regulates the performance of market supervision and the competences of individual authorities, especially in the case of high-risk artificial intelligence systems. Citizens, entrepreneurs and public institutions will thus have a clearer definition of who is responsible for individual areas and who they can turn to if necessary.
The new legislation also creates conditions for coordination, supervision and support in the use and administration of data. The task of the state will be to ensure the effective application of European rules and at the same time create conditions for the responsible use of data in the public sector. The introduction of new European rules will also mean new tasks and the need to ensure the necessary professional and personnel capacities. Specific financial arrangements will therefore be the subject of further negotiations between MIRRI and the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic.
