CEZ's share in JESS
Bratislava, 18.08.2026
The Ministry of Economy (MOE) of the Slovak Republic is striving to ensure that, in difficult times of consolidation, the price for the purchased share of the Czech company ČEZ in the Nuclear Energy Company of Slovakia (JESS) is as favorable as possible and that the process of determining it is fair and transparent. This was stated by the press department of the Ministry of Economy to TASR in response to the Monday press conference of the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico (Smer-SD). He criticized the Ministry for time delays. According to him, the settlement of ownership relations must take place in September. "The Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic fully supports the project of a new nuclear power plant in Slovakia and considers it necessary for the energy self-sufficiency of the Slovak Republic. The process of settling ownership rights in the JESS company has not yet been concluded, primarily due to a different view of the price that the Slovak Republic should pay to the Czech company ČEZ," emphasized the press department of the MOE. The Ministry respects the position of the Prime Minister, according to which he is ready to consider changes in competence in preparing the project of a new nuclear power plant. "The Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic is ready to return to the interrupted negotiations on the material at the next government session, according to which the administration of property rights in the company JAVYS (the parent company of the company JESS) is transferred from the Ministry of Economy to the Government Office of the Slovak Republic," the press department added. The Prime Minister declared on Monday that the settlement of ownership relations in JESS must take place in September. According to him, the Ministry of Economy caused time delays, so the initiative in this area must gradually pass to the Government Office of the Slovak Republic. Nevertheless, the Minister of Economy has his trust. He had earlier spoken about the goal of building and putting into operation a new nuclear power plant in 2040-2041 with an output of 1,200 megawatts on the territory of the current nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice. The total costs of its construction could reach an estimated ten billion euros. The new nuclear power plant is to be entirely in the hands of the state.odkaz na stránku
