While the Canada-Europe story has often been one based on
familial ties, these days, there are many ways in which Canadians &
Europeans connect with one another. As we continue our work
together building a more peaceful & secure world, Canadians &
Europeans see many challenges & opportunities when we look to
our common issues today - public health care, immigrant integration,
education, trade, the environment …
For over 30 years, Canada & the European Union have worked
together to foster cooperation & pursue the common ground
between nations on both sides of the Atlantic. As Europe's status as
a world power grows, the EU remains Canada's second largest trade
& investment partner & a natural ally on many foreign policy &
security issues.
While Canadians recognize the importance of the EU as a partner,
Europeans are beginning to see how Canada has much to offer its
friends in the international community. Today, Canada has risen to
achievements that are undoubtedly beyond its years. As we maintain
one of the world's highest standards of living - not to mention one of
its most innovative & business-savvy populations - we invite
Europeans to discover our modern nature ... not only in the sense of
wild landscapes & the natural realm, but also in the sense of
character, values ... & people.
