| The Republic of Cyprus appreciates Slovakia’s contribution to intermediating a bi-communal dialogue on the island |

| The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and the Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic for Slovakia’s OSCE Chairmanship, Lukáš Parízek, received Demetris Syllouris, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus, and representatives from his delegation today (13 May 2019).
Syllouris highly appreciates the contribution of Slovak diplomacy to the mediation of bi-communal dialogue between the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot political parties, in which Slovakia has been engaged for three decades. He also appreciated the 18-year UNFICYP (United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus) Mission of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic to Cyprus.
Parízek assured Syllouris and the Cypriot delegation about the continuation of these activities. “The Slovak Republic considers the building of trust as one of the key instruments for increasing the quality of bi-communal communication in areas with long-lasting tensions. This is our priority during Slovakia´s Chairmanship in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) as well as the long-standing mission of Slovak diplomacy. We believe that we can contribute to a balance and mutual understanding in Cypriot dialogue.”
