The signing of the intergovernmental agreement between the Slovak Republic and Brazil on defense cooperation is the beginning of relations that both countries want to intensively build in this area, said the Minister of Defense of the Slovak Republic Robert Kaliňák. As part of a delegation led by Prime Minister Robert Fico, he met with Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin on Tuesday in the Brazilian capital and signed several intergovernmental agreements and memoranda. He also held talks with his Brazilian partner José Múcio, reports a special correspondent of TASR from Brazil.
"I think that both the Brazilian industrial base and the Slovak industrial base can offer a huge amount of experience, what we are strong in, what we are good at," said Kaliňák. According to him, Brazil is interested, for example, in Slovak activities and know-how in the field of ammunition production. The Slovak defense industry is also strong in the production of howitzers, which it will also try to place in Brazil, the minister emphasized. According to him, the defense cooperation agreement also includes the possible training of soldiers in the partner country, which would allow them to gain new experience.
In Brazil, Kaliňák also signed a memorandum of interest in purchasing modern C 390 transport aircraft for the Slovak Armed Forces, which are manufactured by the Brazilian company Embraer. "Whether we buy them will, of course, depend on individual conditions. We have not yet discussed the price, we have not discussed the parameters that are necessary for this to be fulfilled. We have only stated that we consider this aircraft to be the most suitable for us," the minister explained.
According to him, these would be much higher-quality aircraft than those currently owned by the Slovak army, ultimately also with cheaper operation. "We are going to visit the Embraer factory directly and then we will start considering how we will approach this deal. Of course, mutual exchange in the case of some technologies from both sides can only help the development of these joint relations," Kaliňák added.According to him, Slovakia is interested in purchasing three aircraft for regular operation and one in reserve. The basic price is approximately 80 million euros, but it will certainly increase due to the required equipment. First, it must be adapted to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) standard, and in addition, modules can be purchased for various purposes, from regular transport to a mobile intensive care unit. Other countries have therefore paid 150 million euros, but also 220 million euros per unit. "But that depends on the needs that the General Staff will want. It will be evaluated in detail and we will certainly inform you about it in detail," announced Kaliňák.odkaz na stránku |
