| Both the Eurozone and the EU recorded a trade surplus in October |

| The eurozone and the entire European Union (EU) reported a foreign trade surplus in October 2024, although smaller than a year ago. The positive balance was contributed by a greater increase in exports than imports. TASR reports this based on preliminary data from the European statistical office Eurostat.
According to the first estimate of Eurostat, in October 2024 the eurozone recorded a surplus in trade in goods of 6.8 billion euros. However, this was less than the positive balance of 9.4 billion euros in October 2023 and the surplus of 11.6 billion euros in September 2024.
Exports of goods from the eurozone increased by 2.1% to 254 billion euros in October 2024 and imports increased by 3.2% to 247.2 billion euros.
In the ten months to the end of October 2024, the eurozone had a surplus of 143.3 billion, a steep increase from 22.7 billion in January to October 2023.
Exports of goods from the euro area to the rest of the world increased by 0.5% to 2.3871 trillion in the period under review, while imports fell by 4.6% to 2.2438 trillion.
Intra-euro area trade fell by 3.1% to 2.155 trillion in the period from January to October 2024.
Eurostat also said that the EU as a whole recorded a surplus in trade in goods of 3.9 billion in October 2024. This is less than a year ago, in October 2023, when the EU had a surplus of 8.4 billion, and also less than 8.2 billion in September this year.
Extra-EU exports of goods rose by 0.9% to 227 billion in October 2024, while imports increased by 3% to 223.1 billion.
In the first 10 months of 2024, extra-EU exports of goods increased by 0.9% to 2.1496 trillion and imports decreased by 4.6% to 2.0299 trillion. As a result, the EU recorded a surplus of 119.7 billion, compared to a positive balance of 1.1 billion in January-October 2023. Intra-EU trade decreased by 2.4% to 3.377 trillion in January-October 2024.
