Small and medium-sized businesses in Germany face another problem |
Berlin, 12.01.2025 |

Around 231,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Germany are at risk of closure this year due to unresolved succession issues. TASR reports this based on a report by the DPA agency, which referred to the state development bank KfW on Friday.
The number of owners who are planning their own retirement and at the same time considering closing down their business has never been higher, said KfW, which has been regularly collecting data on SMEs for more than 20 years. Compared to the survey from the previous year, their number has increased by 67,500. There are too few people interested in taking over existing companies and the number of entrepreneurs who want to withdraw from working life is growing rapidly, the development bank warned. In the medium term, within three to five years, around 310,000 entrepreneurs who have already planned to leave their company are considering ending their activities. The main reason is age.
According to KfW data, the average age of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs in Germany is 54 years, with 39% of them being 60 years or older. In the group of 215,000 entrepreneurs who want to resolve the issue of succession in the near future, i.e. by the end of 2025, the average age is 65.4 years. "There are huge gaps in the management of small and medium-sized enterprises," said Michael Schwartz, KfW's expert on small and medium-sized enterprises. According to the development bank, there are a total of 3.84 million SMEs in Germany.odkaz na stránku |
