Brussels rejects Trump's claims about the size of the US deficit
Brusel, 23.01.2025
The European Commission (EC) rejects claims by US President Donald Trump that the US trade deficit with the EU reaches 350 billion USD (335.15 billion euros). TASR reports this based on a DPA report. An EC spokesman said that the United States did not have such a deficit in trade with the EU and that each of the markets is strong in something. "We have a surplus in trade in goods, the US has a surplus in trade in services," he said. At a press conference at the White House earlier this week, Trump said that the United States has a deficit in trade with the EU of up to 350 billion USD, while complaining that the European Union does not buy cars or agricultural commodities. He then threatened Europe with import tariffs again. According to EU data, the United States exported goods worth 347.1 billion euros to the European Union in 2023, and the EU exported goods worth 503.8 billion euros to the US. In the same year, US exports of services to the EU amounted to €396.4 billion, while EU exports to the US amounted to €292.4 billion. The EC spokesperson added that the European Union is interested in constructive cooperation with the US administration, but is ready to defend its legitimate interests if necessary. odkaz na stránku
