The number of corporate bankruptcies in Slovakia increased by 22% |
Bratislava, 10.02.2025 |
 |
In January, 22 business entities went bankrupt, which represents a year-on-year increase of more than 22 percent. In a month-on-month comparison with December last year, on the contrary, there was a 31 percent decrease. This was reported by CRIF - Slovak Credit Bureau.
"Especially in the last days of January and then in the first days of February, we recorded an unusually small daily number of declared bankruptcies. We asked the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic for an answer to the question of whether this was caused by objective reasons (e.g. technical, personnel, financial, or other), or is it a real picture of the financial situation of companies. We have not received an answer yet," said the company's chief analyst Jana Marková.
In terms of legal forms, there were 20 entities, and thus more than 95 percent of them were limited liability companies, one joint-stock company and one association. Ten entities that began facing bankruptcy in January had between 1 and 10 employees, three other companies reported a range of 10 to 99 employees, and for nine companies the number was not determined, CRIF specified.
The most famous affected company was to be the joint-stock company Bukóza Holding, based in Hencovce, which was to have been linked to the Socialist-Revolutionary Party Bukóza Invest in the past. "The factory was one of the industrial legends of the Vranov region, with a seventy-year history. In December 2024, over 400 employees worked there, who began to resign due to unpaid wages, and the situation had to be remedied by the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic," CRIF explained.
In connection with the subject of business, bankruptcy was declared for the assets of six industrial enterprises. Industries that are usually considered more problematic according to the company, such as construction, trade or transport and warehousing, had two declared bankruptcies each.
In January, four bankruptcy proceedings were to be stopped due to lack of assets, and 14 bankruptcies were to be completely canceled for the same reason. Restructuring was permitted in January for two companies, one based in the Nitra Region and the other in the ilina Region. This is the same number as in December 2024, a 33 percent year-on-year decrease. One restructuring was permitted for a construction company and one for a real estate company.
