The Slovak Beer Crown (SPK) tasting competition has launched registration for Slovak beer producers. The 18th edition will offer the widest selection of beer styles in the competition's history, an expanded international jury, and will open the summer beer season with a June festival of Slovak breweries. This was announced by Vladimír Machalík, executive director of the Slovak Association of Beer and Malt Producers (SZVPS), which is the award's organizer. According to him, both small and large beer producers in Slovakia can register their beers until April 11.
"In the 18th edition of the Slovak Beer Crown, which is the Slovak beer brewing championship, we want to show consumers the diversity of beer styles, of which there are more than a hundred in the world. Slovak breweries brew a variety of beer styles, and we also want to bring them closer to the public," said Machalík.
According to him, the Slovak Beer Crown 2025 will allow competition samples to be entered into twelve modified categories that accept most of the world's beer styles according to the international Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). The entered samples will be evaluated on April 29, 2025, by an extended international expert commission at the State Veterinary and Food Institute - Veterinary and Food Institute in Bratislava, which is the co-organizer and expert guarantor of the competition.
Machalík added that brewers will also have the opportunity this year to present their competition samples not only to the international evaluation commission, but also to the general public. The organizers will open the SPK 2025 Beer Festival on June 6 and 7, 2025 at Náměstí slobody in Bratislava, after the official announcement of the results of the Slovak Beer Crown.
The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic. All information and conditions of the competition are available on the SZVPS website.
