The government could issue national visas for people from China
Bratislava, 26.02.2025
The government could start issuing national visas for residents of the People's Republic of China. It could grant up to 1,000 of them in one calendar year. This follows from preliminary information on the draft regulation on issuing visas in the interest of the Slovak Republic for selected groups of nationals of the People's Republic of China, which the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family (MLSAF) of the Slovak Republic published on the legislative and legal portal Slov-Lex. "The legal regulation proposes to establish the conditions and purpose for expressing the interest of the Slovak Republic in granting a national visa for the purpose of employment to nationals of the People's Republic of China who are employees of selected investors for the duration of employment for a maximum of one year," the MLSAF said in preliminary information. National visas should be issued in connection with the support of trade relations and the development of investments between the People's Republic of China and Slovakia. The Ministry of Labor specified that the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) currently registers more than 50 entrepreneurs in the country with an ultimate parent company in the People's Republic of China. According to him, China is becoming a significant investor in Slovakia. "In 2024, the SARIO agency reported five projects of Chinese companies, which cumulatively represent an investment of 1.31 billion euros and have the potential to create more than 2,100 direct jobs. The cumulative amount of these investments represented 77% of the amount of investments successfully reported in a given year. In four cases, these are new plants of companies that have not previously operated in Slovakia and many of them are directly related to the supply chain of Volvo Cars, which is establishing itself in Valaliki, but also of companies established in surrounding countries," the ministry explained. Potential employees of the People's Republic of China can currently enter the Slovak labor market only in the case of a valid residence permit for the purpose of employment granted on the basis of a confirmation of the possibility of filling a vacant position. However, according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, this system is not sufficient for the implementation of investment projects. "The regime for granting national visas made available in the interests of the Slovak Republic with the aim of short-term accelerated access of third-country nationals to the Slovak labor market fulfills an important function for supporting investments, supporting the attraction of talents from abroad and also supporting the creation of jobs for Slovak employees," concluded the Ministry of Labor. odkaz na stránku
