| The passive balance of agri-trade reached 2.443 billion euros |

| The balance of foreign trade of the Slovak Republic with agricultural and food products was passive in January-November 2024, in the value of -2.443 billion euros. In year-on-year comparison, it increased by 20.8%. This was reported to TASR by Jana Holéciová, spokesperson for the Slovak Agricultural and Food Chamber (SPPK).
According to her, in the first 11 months of 2024, the negative balance of exports and imports increased in year-on-year comparison for animal products by 9.7%, for plant products by 424.6% and for food, beverages and tobacco by 15.2%. A year-on-year decrease in the negative balance was recorded for fats and oils by 14%.
Imports of agricultural and food products in January-November 2024 amounted to 7.190 billion euros. Compared to 2023, imports of agri-food products were 6.2% higher in 2024. Year-on-year, imports were higher in 2024 for animal products by 5.1%, for plant products by 1.1% and in the food, beverages and tobacco sector by 10.8%. Imports in 2024 were lower in the fats and oils sector by 10.9% compared to 2023.
In January-November 2024, agri-food products were exported in a total value of 4.747 billion euros, which is a balanced situation compared to the same period in 2023. In the year-on-year comparison, exports of animal products increased by 0.3% and exports of food, beverages and tobacco by 8.8%. Exports of plant products decreased by 13.2% and fats and oils by 7.6% year-on-year.
Holéciová added that the passive balance of foreign trade with agri-food products of Slovakia is increasing from year to year. For example, in the period January - November 2016 it was worth -1.17 billion euros. Four years later it increased to -1.46 billion euros and in another four years, i.e. last year in the first 11 months it increased by one billion euros to the aforementioned -2.443 billion euros.
