We are interested in Croatian cooperation in hydrocarbons and nuclear energy |

According to the State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Economy, Vladimír Šimoňák, the partnership between the Slovak Republic and Croatia is of economic importance, primarily in cooperation in the supply of hydrocarbon fuels. Croatia is also intensively considering the development of its nuclear program, Šimoňák said on Wednesday in Zagreb after talks with his counterpart Vedran Špehar. This is reported by the special correspondent of TASR.
"This means that there are certainly areas with which we associate expectations in the future in the field of energy," noted the State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Economy.
According to Šimoňák, the Slovak Republic has a surplus in trade with Croatia. "Of course, our citizens leave relatively significant amounts of money here during recreation and holidays. But just as the exchange has grown so far, I think it can grow in the future," he specified. According to him, Slovakia also wants to increase exports of goods to Croatia - for example, cars.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, during negotiations with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Wednesday, offered Slovakia the possibility of purchasing liquefied natural gas (LNG) through terminals on the Croatian island of Krk. However, Fico said that it would be more expensive for Slovakia than importing standard gas.
"It is expensive in the sense that gas, which would come to us in larger volumes from Croatia, must first be liquefied, then regasified again on the Croatian coast, which, logically, creates costs," explained Šimonák. He added that the most advantageous gas for Slovakia is gas arriving via standard pipeline transport - via the southern gas pipelines or the currently unused gas pipeline from the east.
"I think it is in the interest of all of us - not only Slovakia, not only Croatia, but the entire European Union - for gas prices to fall. And those gas prices will only fall when larger volumes of gas come to the regional European market," declared the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy.
