Industrial production returned to growth in March, up 3.5% year-on-year |
Bratislava, 10.05.2025 |
 |
Industrial production in the Slovak Republic increased by 3.5% year-on-year in March, recording growth for the first time this year. The key production of cars contributed most significantly to turnover, which increased by almost 21%. On the contrary, the most significant slowdown was seen in the supply of electricity and gas, or in the production of machinery, the Statistical Office (Ú) of the Slovak Republic reported on Friday. Month-on-month (compared to February) after taking into account seasonal effects, industrial production increased by 0.7%.
The number of sectors that showed lower performance than a year ago compared to previous months decreased significantly. In total, 11 out of 15 monitored sectors achieved higher performance year-on-year. The most significant impact on industrial production was the growth of almost 21% in the crucial production of transport vehicles. The double-digit year-on-year growth in car production was maintained for the third month in a row and its pace is gradually increasing.
In second and third place in terms of overall importance were the sectors that hindered Slovak industry. The second most significant impact on the result was an almost 16% decline in the supply of electricity, gas, steam and cold air. The long-term decline in production also continued in the production of machinery and equipment, which, with a current drop of almost 16%, continued to adversely affect the development of the entire industry. The industry's turnaround to positive figures was also helped by an almost 26% growth in the production of computer products, an approximately 19% increase in the production of chemicals, or a more than 7% increase in food production.
For the entire first quarter, industrial production fell by 0.9% year-on-year. Seven out of a total of 15 monitored sectors showed lower performance than in the same period last year. The result was most significantly affected by a 15% growth in the production of transport vehicles. On the other hand, industry was significantly hampered mainly by the production of metals, which showed a more than 10% year-on-year decrease in the first three months of 2025. Industrial performance was slowed by an almost 14% decline in the supply of electricity, gas, steam and cold air, an almost 16% decline in the production of machinery and equipment, and also an over 10% reduction in the production of electrical equipment.odkaz na stránku |
