British Finance Minister calls for stronger ties with EU |
London, 10.12.2024 |

British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves on Monday called for stronger trade relations with the European Union (EU). She did so at a meeting of the Eurogroup, an informal grouping of eurozone finance ministers. TASR reports on this based on a report by the AFP agency.
"Today is a watershed moment," Reeves said as she arrived for the Eurogroup meeting in Brussels. "This is a chance for Britain to reiterate our desire to rebuild our relationship with our friends and neighbours within the EU," she added. Reeves' meeting with eurozone partners reflects the Labour government's efforts to improve relations with the EU after years of disputes under previous Conservative governments. The British minister called for easing trade barriers, supporting investment and helping businesses sell in each other's markets. "It is in our national interest to have more normal trading relations with our closest neighbours and trading partners," Reeves said.
In October, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to discuss strengthening ties. The British leader, who voted to remain in the EU in the 2016 referendum, stressed that improving relations would not mean reversing Brexit, and he also ruled out returning to the European single market or customs union.odkaz na stránku |
