The new head of the Stellantis car company, Antonio Filosa, has called on the European Union to be more flexible in the transition to electric vehicles in order to protect the European automotive industry. This was reported by the Reuters agency."Strategic dialogue is very important, but it is now essential to act urgently. We no longer have time for further delays," said Filosa, who took over the leadership of the car company at the end of June.European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is scheduled to meet with representatives of car manufacturers on September 12 to discuss the future of the sector. It currently faces a double threat - from fierce Chinese competition in the electric vehicle market and from American import tariffs.Filosa, under whose company brands such as Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Chrysler, Jeep, and Opel fall, urged the EC to support car sales in Europe, such as hybrids, by reducing the average age of vehicles on European roads. In an interview with the newspapers Il Sole 24 Ore and Les Echos, he stated that policy which supports the exchange of older cars for new ones and a greater selection of powertrains, will significantly affect global CO2 production. The light commercial vehicle sector is facing major issues, which need to be addressed urgently, Filosa added. In this context, he said that the period for recalculating CO2 emissions for these vehicles should be extended from three years to five years. Additionally, he commented on the question of the sale of the Maserati brand, as Stellantis is currently reassessing its brand portfolio. 'I want to make it clear that Maserati is not for sale. However, we need to determine which products we will develop and what long-term strategy we will adopt for one of our most iconic brands,' Filosa added.odkaz na stránku |
