Municipalities must ask residents whether they want wind farms.
Bratislava, 07.11.2025
- No wind farm in Slovakia will be able to be built without the consent of the city or municipality affected by the project. Minister of the Environment Tomáš Taraba (SNS nominee) emphasized this at a Friday press conference while responding to a question about the wind farm project between Stupava and Lozorno in the Malacky district. Taraba emphasized that in this case, as with other wind farm projects, a universal condition applies. 'Mayors will have to comment on it. The Ministry of Environment is not the building authority; the cities and municipalities are, so they must step forward before the citizens and ask them whether they want it or not,' he pointed out, referring to the new wording of the EIA Act, which introduces the necessary condition of the consent of the residents of the affected municipality for the construction of a wind farm. 'We have even tightened the permitting processes by requiring not only the municipality in whose cadastral area the wind farm is to be realized to comment, but also all affected municipalities,' he stressd... Taraba admitted that in this context he is in dispute with the European Commission, which, according to him, is pushing for massive construction of wind farms in Slovakia and as flexible permitting processes as possible. "However, there is no force that can compel Minister Taraba to take away the right of cities and municipalities to express their opinion," he stated. The minister also pointed out that the Ministry of the Environment will require investors in wind farm projects to provide a clear plan for the handling of technologies and structures after the end of their lifespan. The plan for a wind farm on the area near the D2 motorway between Stupava and the village of Zohor was submitted this week for an environmental impact assessment. The plan includes 11 wind turbines. The town of Stupava has been communicating with residents about the proposal through its information channels since summer, including setting up the so-called Wind Mail, which answers questions related to the project. The local government declared that the town's decision regarding the stance will be based on the opinion of the residents.odkaz na stránku
