| Approximately 200 companies with Indian owners operate in Slovakia |
| Bratislava, 22.06.2026 |
 |
| There are approximately 200 active companies with Indian owners in Slovakia, but their number has been increasing in recent years. This is according to an analysis by CRIF - Slovak Credit Bureau, which it prepared in connection with this week's visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The number of such companies in Slovakia is still low and ownership is very fragmented. One individual has a stake in eight companies, while other owners mostly figure in one or two companies. Indian capital does not yet form a significant investor group in our country, although some companies are well-known and economically important names," explained CRIF analyst Jan Cikler.
The best-known and economically most important company with an Indian background is the car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover Slovakia in Nitra, which belongs to the Tata Motors concern. In addition to the car manufacturer, the Tata Group also has other entities in Slovakia connected to the automotive industry. Larger companies with Indian ownership connections include Kinex Bearings, which manufactures rolling bearings for industry in Bytča and Kysucké Nové Mesto and supplies them to more than 80 countries around the world.
Of the approximately 200 active companies, more than 60 have been established since 2024. "However, these are usually not large companies. Most companies belong to the lowest turnover category, i.e. with sales of up to one million euros," stated Cikler. From a geographical point of view, they are most often located in the Bratislava region, followed by the Košice and Trnava regions. They operate mainly in administrative and support activities, the processing industry, and information and communication activities.
Among the entities with higher turnover are, for example, subsidiaries of Czech companies with Indian owners. At the same time, the number of entities with Indian owners in the Czech Republic is more than five times higher than in Slovakia. In addition to technological and industrial companies, restaurants are also more significantly represented there.
"Slovakia is currently attracting Indian capital to a lesser extent than the Czech Republic. One of the reasons may be that our Czech neighbors concluded a strategic partnership with India as early as 2024. The visit of the Indian Prime Minister comes at a time when India is becoming the center of attention in European economics and politics. It will therefore be interesting for Slovak business to see whether current diplomatic contacts will translate into a stronger business presence of Indian investors in Slovakia," the analyst commented.
