The Ministry of Economy should have access to data to assess energy aid
Bratislava, 02.04.2025
The Ministry of Economy (MoE) of the Slovak Republic should have access to the socio-economic data of the population upon request, on the basis of which it will assess the need for compensation for energy costs. This follows from the government bill on the provision of data for the purpose of targeted energy assistance, which the deputies of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic moved to the second reading on Tuesday. They are discussing it in an abbreviated legislative procedure. If the deputies approve the legal norm, the Ministry of Economy will be able to request some data, for example, from the real estate cadastre, financial administration, Social Insurance Agency or from the information systems of energy distribution companies. "The aim of data collection and analysis is to create and fill a logically structured database operated by the ministry, which will be transformed in the future into a comprehensive information system for evaluating the threat of individual households to energy poverty and the degree of their threat when creating a register of consumption points with all relevant data necessary for institutionalizing the system of targeted energy assistance," the Ministry of Economy stated. The law stipulates which data individual institutions and companies can request from the ministry. According to the proposal, the most data can be obtained from the register of natural persons, including the nationality of the person being assessed. The second highest amount of data can be obtained from the real estate cadastre. The ministry has also made it an obligation to adopt appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect privacy and personal data. The legal norm stipulates that the ministry processes and stores the obtained data for a maximum period of one year from the date of their provision. After this period, the ministry will immediately destroy the data. The law is to enter into force on the date of its proclamation.odkaz na stránku
