Slovak e-commerce continues to grow in the first half of 2025
Bratislava, 17.07.2025
In the first half of 2025, the e-commerce market in the Slovak Republic continues to grow, both in terms of the number of orders and total turnover in euros. The decrease in the average number of orders per e-shop and the decrease in the average turnover of e-shops indicates an increase in the number of smaller players or changes in consumer shopping behavior. This is according to an analysis by Upgates, a company that creates a platform for e-shops. Compared to the first half of 2024, according to the analysis, the average number of orders per e-shop in the current year decreased by approximately 2.5% from 827 to 807. The total number of orders increased by 24.5% year-on-year. “The decrease in the average number of orders per e-shop, while the total number of orders is increasing, indicates an increase in the number of active e-shops. This is a trend that has been indicated for a long time by the data that we regularly publish – Slovaks are interested in doing business and many are setting up e-shops with the aim of earning extra money,” explained Michal Benatzky from Upgates. The total turnover of Slovak e-shops on the Upgates platform also recorded a positive development. It increased by more than 21% from 40.2 million to 48.8 million euros. However, the average turnover of e-shops decreased by almost 9.5% from 55,354 to 50,137 euros. "The decline in the average turnover of e-shops while the entire platform grows is a typical manifestation of rapidly growing e-commerce platforms, where the given average is reduced by an increasing number of smaller e-shops. The increase in the number of smaller market players also means a tougher fight for customers in the form of promotions and discounts, which can also have an impact on changing consumer purchasing behavior. For example, these include smaller and more frequent purchases or dividing orders and purchases from specialized retailers," added Benatzky. The categories of food (+ 10%), pet supplies (+ 8%), garden (+ 7%), gold and tobacco (+ 2%) improved year-on-year. The most significant decline was recorded by the categories of furniture (- 17%), industry (- 13%), hobby (- 12%), health (- 9%) and services (- 5%). Several traditional segments, such as cars, drugstores, electronics, books, flowers, footwear, sports, construction and printing, remained stable, without significant fluctuations. “Overall, e-commerce continues to expand and diversify in 2025. Among the trends, we can highlight the growth in the number of participants and the frequency of smaller orders. Both trends have the potential to become key aspects for the future development of the entire market,” concluded Benatzky. odkaz na stránku
