Austrian minister rejects pressure to introduce electromobility
Vienna, 22.07.2025
Austrian Economy Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer has strongly rejected the European Commission's (EC) plans to make it mandatory to use electric cars in company fleets. TASR reports this based on a report by the APA agency. "I categorically reject the mandatory introduction of electric cars as well as the EU targets for fleets, which have proven to be a clear competitive disadvantage for European car manufacturers and a direct subsidy for Asian competitors," the minister said on Monday. Over the weekend, the German daily Bild am Sonntag reported that the EC plans to introduce a ban on combustion engines for car rental providers and company fleets from 2030. On Monday, the Commission said that it had not yet taken concrete decisions at the political level on possible climate-related proposals for company vehicles. According to the daily, Brussels wants to ensure that car rental providers and large companies can only purchase electric vehicles from 2030. The Commission announced in March that it would present a legislative proposal by the end of the year to reduce emissions from company cars, taking into account various technologies. odkaz na stránku
