| The government of the Slovak Republic approved an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation between the governments of the Slovak Republic and the United States of America during its meeting on Wednesday. The approved intergovernmental agreement establishes a legal and institutional framework for cooperation between both governments in the field of civil nuclear energy and the responsible use of nuclear energy and is of fundamental importance for the construction of a new nuclear source in Jaslovské Bohunice (EBO). This was stated by the press department of the Ministry of Economy (MH) of the Slovak Republic.According to the MH SR, the agreement represents access for Slovakia to new technological solutions with the highest safety and environmental standards and collaboration on further development projects. The agreement will contribute to strengthening the country’s energy security and to the diversification and stability of energy supplies in accordance with EU policies and the rules of the Euratom Treaty.Thus, Slovakia will rank among the leaders in the use of civil nuclear energy within the EU and NATO, not only in energy production but also in nuclear waste processing and recycling.but also in applied science, research, and the use of nuclear technologies in other areas including medicine. The approved intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in nuclear energy is a framework agreement and primarily includes cooperation related to the civil nuclear power program in Slovakia. It creates opportunities for cooperation in the area of new modern technologies, research, exchange of experiences, training of professionals, and involvement of the Slovak industry for both countries. It allows for exchange programs between universities and other educational institutions and supports research and development cooperation. The Ministry of Economy emphasized that the Slovak Republic maintains full sovereignty in choosing partners, technologies, financing methods, and final project solutions. The agreement is the first step in this direction, and Slovakia is open to cooperation with any technologically advanced and trustworthy partner that can contribute to the development of nuclear energy in accordance with needs and European legislation.In the future, the government of the Slovak Republic does not exclude the conclusion of framework intergovernmental agreements with other countries as well. The Ministry of Health added that the European Commission has also not identified any circumstances preventing the conclusion of the contract, while the time and place of signing are currently the subject of discussions with the American administration. Due to the sensitive nature of the intergovernmental agreement, in order to maintain security, protect the interests of the Slovak Republic, and ensure a smooth procedural process leading to its proper conclusion, it will be published in accordance with the provisions of the law on the protection of classified information after it comes into force and effect, and the Ministry of Economy will duly and timely inform about it.odkaz na stránku |
