ECB rates should not change by the end of the year.
Bratislava, 12.09.2025
The current message from the European Central Bank (ECB) is clear. Inflation is near the target, the economy is recovering somewhat faster than expected, and the bank can afford to keep its key rates unchanged. This should remain the case until the end of the year, assumes analyst Marián Kočiš from Slovenská sporiteľňa in his comment on Thursday's ECB decision."As expected, at its September meeting, the ECB Governing Council decided to keep interest rates unchanged. According to President Lagarde, the process of disinflation, or easing inflation, has ended," the analyst pointed out. Although inflation projections have increased slightly, he believes that the central bank's rates are roughly at a neutral level, which neither supports nor dampens the economy or inflation. The new ECB forecast brought an upward revision of economic growth for 2025 from 0.9% to 1.2%. For 2026 and 2027, growth is expected at 1% and 1.3%. This, according to Kočiš, indicates that structural challenges for a more dynamic growth of the economy in the eurozone are being addressed.including external threats in the form of tariffs and geopolitical tension."At this moment, we do not anticipate any further movement of the central bank's rates until the end of the year. The process of easing monetary policy in this cycle has likely come to an end," assessed the analyst. However, if certain risks materialize, a change in rates cannot be ruled out. The ECB's further steps will depend on the development of the economic situation, especially in connection with external challenges and inflationary pressures, Kočiš announced."The impacts of previous decisions will still be felt in the economy for several months, for example, in the form of more accessible, hence cheaper, lending. However, the shift in interest rates will very likely continue to be gradual," the analyst added.odkaz na stránku
