| Contributions could be reduced for some employees in 2026 |
| Bratislava, 13.12.2025 |
 |
| Next year, contributions could be reduced for certain categories of employees. However, this would have to be linked to some measures. This was stated in the STVR program Saturday Dialogues by Prime Minister and Chairman of the Smer-SD party Robert Fico.
"I'm just throwing out the idea that we should proceed with reducing contributions, which is, of course, a huge expense for the state. On the other hand, I believe that if we combined it with measures, such as a person who comes to the lathe at six in the morning and works there until three, normally the classic eight and a half - nine hours, will not be able to be a self-employed person, because people as self-employed people pay minimal contributions," he explained.
"The approach to how to kick-start the economy, economic growth, must be that we have to come up with something other than cuts. We had to make cuts to save finances. Now there is a proposal, for example, that we should talk to a certain category of employees about whether we can reduce contributions, but it must be linked to measures," he specified.
At the end of January 2026, the coalition council could discuss asking the parliament for a vote of confidence in the constitutional law on budgetary responsibility. "The National Council of the Slovak Republic is planned, I think the last week of January, we will sit down in the coalition council and talk about it. The constitutional law does not impose any deadline on us by which we have to do it. It is a formal step, of course, I want to respect the constitutional law and we will do it," said the prime minister.
Fico underlined that he welcomes Friday's (12/12) confirmation of the Slovak Republic's rating at A3 with a stable outlook by the Moody's rating agency. "I welcome this assessment because it confirms that we are taking the right step," he underlined.
He also announced that in 2026 the government would proceed in a "different way" when obtaining resources. "That's all I can say about it now. I have launched a whole series of informal consultations not with officials, but with representatives of large companies, tradespeople, and employers. We are discussing what 2026 should look like with this positive (rating) news. If we are going to consolidate, we will probably have to in 2026, so we will do it differently than we have done so far," the Prime Minister added.odkaz na stránku |
