| German companies want to continue doing business in Russia |
| Berlin, 01.01.2026 |

| Hundreds of German companies want to continue doing business in Russia despite increasingly strict Western sanctions due to Moscow's war against Ukraine. Only 4% of German companies plan to withdraw from the Russian market, said Matthias Schepp, chairman of the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce (Chamber), on Thursday, referring to a new survey on the business climate in Russia. TASR reports this based on a report by the DPA agency.
"Everyone who is still here in Russia after four years of bloodshed and sanctions wants to hang on," said Schepp. According to him, many of the approximately 260 company representatives interviewed expressed concerns that they would lose a lot of money if they left Russia. According to the Chamber, around 2,000 German companies are still operating in the world's largest country, with assets worth more than 100 billion euros. "German assets are even growing because Russian laws prevent the transfer of profits on a larger scale," Schepp said.
Overall, the business climate in Russia and the expectations of German companies have deteriorated noticeably. More than half of companies now expect the Russian economy to shrink this year. If the war does not end, there is a risk of further tightening of sanctions. The German-Russian Chamber of Commerce has 750 members and, according to its own data, is the largest interest group for foreign businessmen in Russia.
