E.ON calls for an end to subsidies for solar installations
Berlin, 02.01.2026
The CEO of the German energy group E.ON, Leonhard Birnbaum, is calling for an end to state subsidies for solar installations. Rooftop photovoltaic systems have proven themselves on the market and subsidies are no longer necessary, he said in an interview with the Rheinische Post newspaper on Thursday. TASR is reporting this based on a report by the DPA agency. Photovoltaics is profitable even without subsidies, which is a great success for the energy transition, said Birnbaum. The head of the group also praised the German Ministry of Economics and Energy's plan to abolish subsidies for new small solar installations. The relevant minister, Katherine Reiche, argues that these systems are profitable from the consumer's perspective. Chancellor Friedrich Merz's cabinet has not yet made a final decision on this issue. Owners of rooftop solar systems in Germany who supply electricity to the grid currently receive a fixed amount per kilowatt hour for 20 years. odkaz na stránku
