France to ban imports of food containing pesticides
Paris, 05.01.2026
France plans to ban food imports from South America and other regions that contain pesticides banned in the European Union. French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said in a post on the X network on Sunday that a decree on the ban will be issued in the coming days. TASR reports this based on a report by Bloomberg. French farmers have tried to block the signing of a free trade agreement between the EU and the countries of the South American Mercosur association (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay). They justify this by concerns about cheaper imports and whether the imports will comply with European Union health and environmental standards. After incorporating some safeguards into the text of the agreement, European officials are preparing to ratify the treaty. Lecornu said that the new decree is a "first step" to protect consumers and at the same time to combat unfair competition. "A specialized unit will carry out inspections to ensure compliance with our health standards," he added.odkaz na stránku
