Households should receive energy vouchers for heating within two weeks
Bratislava, 08.01.2026
The Ministry of Economy (MoE) of the Slovak Republic, in cooperation with Slovak Post, is launching the process of generating and distributing energy vouchers to partially cover the increased prices of heat and hot water supplied through central heating (CHP) for selected groups of households. The expected generation and distribution of the entire amount of vouchers will take approximately two weeks, the MoE reported on Wednesday. Energy vouchers are intended for households that use CHP and meet the conditions set by law for the provision of assistance. Households do not have to apply for assistance separately. This is part of targeted energy assistance, which is intended to mitigate the impact of rising energy prices. Compensation for increased prices for electricity and gas will be automatically taken into account in advance payments from suppliers for households - who are entitled to energy assistance. "The value of the energy voucher will represent one quarter (a period of three months) of the calculated compensation for partial payment of increased costs for 2026. The amount of the voucher depends on the floor area of the apartment obtained from the real estate cadastre data and on the price location of the specific heat supplier for the given object. The calculated compensation is also based on data on consumption and the applied price provided by heat suppliers," the Ministry of Economy specified. The next sending of energy vouchers will follow the first reassessment of the entitlement to energy assistance, which is planned for April 2026. The vouchers will be sent to the address of permanent residence in the form of a postal order, which will be redeemable at any branch of the Slovak Post. The energy voucher will be issued only if the calculated energy assistance for the first three months is higher than five euros, its validity is 45 days. In the event of loss of the energy voucher, the Slovak Post will issue a duplicate with the same validity period. The Ministry of Economy has explained that the addressee of the energy voucher will be the oldest member of the energy household. In the event that more than one person with permanent residence lives in a given apartment or family house, the person who is under 60 years old will be preferred as the addressee of the energy voucher in an effort to relieve the burden on older citizens. In the event that an entitlement arises for an energy household where only minors are listed as permanent residents, the addressee will be the legal representative. In the event that no person has a permanent residence at a given address, the addressee will be the owner of the apartment. odkaz na stránku
