| India delays finalization of trade deal with US |
| Naí Dillí , 23.02.2026 |

| India is postponing the finalization of a trade agreement with the US. The main reason is uncertainty after the US Supreme Court overturned tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. This was stated on Sunday by a source from the Indian Ministry of Commerce. TASR reports this based on a report by the Reuters agency.
India will therefore not send a trade delegation to Washington for now. The delegation was supposed to travel on Sunday for negotiations on the finalization of a preliminary trade agreement.
The agreement envisages a reduction in US sanctions of 25% on some Indian products related to the purchase of Russian oil. According to the framework agreement, US tariffs on Indian goods were to fall to 18%, while India committed to purchasing US goods worth 500 billion USD (424.92 billion euros) over five years, from energy to aircraft, precious metals and technology products.
According to a source from the Indian Ministry of Commerce, the decision to postpone was made after consultations between representatives of both countries. “A new date for the trip has not yet been set,” added the source, who did not want to be named due to the sensitivity of the subject. The main reason is the uncertainty over the future tariff regime following Friday’s (20/2) US Supreme Court verdict.
India’s Commerce Ministry said on Saturday (21/2) that it was reviewing the implications of the verdict and subsequent US announcements.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said last week that the provisional agreement could enter into force in April after the remaining issues are resolved during a delegation’s visit to Washington.
