Austria's foreign trade deficit in 2025 reached 6.6 billion euros
Vienna, 10.03.2026
Due to sharply increased imports from China and a significant decline in exports to the US, Austria recorded a foreign trade deficit of 6.6 billion euros last year. TASR reports this based on a report by the APA agency, which referred to the Austrian Statistical Office on Monday. Total Austrian exports in 2025 fell by 0.5% year-on-year to 190.1 billion euros. The value of imports increased by 4.1% to 196.7 billion euros, the statistical office said in its flash estimate. Imports from China increased by around 14% in 2025, while exports from Austria to the US fell by more than 20%. "Structural changes are taking place in global trade," commented Economy Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer on the data, warning that Europe could become a "backup market for dumped imports from China". Germany remained by far Austria's most important trading partner. Exports and imports with other European Union (EU) countries were roughly balanced. Imports increased by 2.6% to 128.7 billion euros. Exports grew slightly less, by 0.6% to 129 billion euros. odkaz na stránku
