| Economic diplomacy opens doors to Southeast Asia for Slovak companies |
| Bratislava, 29.05.2026 |

| Business opportunities in Southeast Asian countries, support for Slovak exports and strengthening economic diplomacy were among the main topics of the Export Club discussion forum. At the event organized by Eximbanka Slovak Republic in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, State Secretary of Slovak Diplomacy Rastislav Chovanec pointed out the importance of this region.
“Developing cooperation with Southeast Asian countries brings Slovakia new export opportunities, investments, technological partnerships and access to innovations. Our ambition is to transform political contacts into concrete business opportunities for Slovak companies,” said R. Chovanec. He also reminded that Southeast Asia is one of the most dynamically developing regions in the world with more than 600 million inhabitants, a growing middle class and strong integration into global value chains.
The Export Club discussion focused primarily on business opportunities in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. As State Secretary Rastislav Chovanec explained, the forum connected Slovak entrepreneurs with representatives of the state, financial institutions, economic diplomacy, but also with partners from the region.
"The participation of the European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maroš Šefčovič, underlined the European dimension of this agenda. The European Union's trade policy, free trade agreements and strengthening economic security can facilitate access to new markets for Slovak companies and help them grow beyond traditional export destinations," stated Rastislav Chovanec.
As he further emphasized, Slovakia is strengthening its presence in this region with concrete steps in the field of economic diplomacy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has opened new embassies in Malaysia and the Philippines, where full-fledged economic diplomats are already working, ready to help Slovak companies enter or expand their activities in local markets. “We see the greatest potential for Slovak companies here in the defense industry, in the digitalization sector, in energy, green technologies and water cycle management,” explained R. Chovanec.
The State Secretary of Slovak Diplomacy also recalled recent business missions to Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam, which, according to him, confirmed the growing interest of Slovak companies in the Southeast Asian region. “Now it is important to build on the contacts made, work with available financial instruments, market information and prepare specific projects,” he concluded.
In addition to State Secretary Rastislav Chovanec and European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, the Chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Richard Raši and the General Director of Eximbanka SR Rastislav Podhorec also spoke at the discussion forum. Foreign guests at the event included ambassadors from the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam, as well as representatives of the embassies of Malaysia and Thailand.
