| Buildings built before April 1, 2025 can be legalized additionally |
| Bratislava, 26.06.2026 |
 |
| The Building Act provides for the legalization of buildings that were built before April 1, 2025. These can be additionally legalized according to the transitional provisions of the Building Act, provided that the legal requirements are met. However, an application for additional legalization must be submitted to the relevant building office by March 31, 2029. After this date, all illegal buildings will have to be removed, informed Simona Parížeková, spokesperson for the Office for Spatial Planning and Construction (UUPV) of the Slovak Republic.
Buildings built before the entry into force of the Building Act (before April 1, 2025) are divided into three categories. The so-called general amnesty applies to buildings built before October 1, 1976, and they are therefore automatically considered to be buildings built in accordance with the law.
Another group are buildings built from October 1, 1976 to the end of 1989. "These buildings are subject to amnesty and are also considered to be buildings built in accordance with the law. However, the condition is that they must be continuously used for their intended purpose and the owner of the building must also be the owner of the land or have another right to the land on which such a building is built," Parížeková pointed out.
The third category is buildings that began construction from the beginning of 1990 to April 1, 2025. "These buildings can still be legalized subsequently, provided that the conditions of construction legislation are met," added the UUPV spokeswoman.
