| Porsche plans to move Cayenne production from Slovakia to Germany |
| Frankfurt am Main, 29.06.2026 |
 |
| Porsche plans to move production of the Cayenne SUV from Slovakia to its plant in the German city of Leipzig to increase capacity utilization, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) newspaper reported on Saturday (June 27). A Porsche spokesman declined to comment on the report. However, he recalled a recent statement by the automaker's CEO Michael Leiters, who stressed that the company remains loyal to its Leipzig plant and added that the company must take decisive measures to remain competitive. TASR reports this based on a report by Reuters.
The news that Porsche plans to move production of the Cayenne SUV from Bratislava to Leipzig came a day after German business monthly Manager Magazin reported that Volkswagen, Porsche's parent company, is considering closing four plants in Germany and cutting up to 100,000 jobs.
According to the FAZ, the move to Leipzig is conditional on employees at the plant there agreeing to a wage cut. Earnings in Slovakia are significantly lower than those of Porsche employees in Germany.
Porsche's proposal to move production from Bratislava to Leipzig is part of broader cost-cutting measures at the Volkswagen Group, according to the FAZ. The plan comes after the carmaker Porsche decided not to renew the contracts of several hundred temporary workers and plans to cut 200 jobs by August through voluntary redundancy agreements in exchange for severance pay.odkaz na stránku |
