(ChattahBox)—Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin strongly hinted he would return as Russia’s president n 2012, at a recent meeting held at his country dacha with international scholars and journalists in attendance. During the retreat, Putin also spoke about the country’s relations with Iran, Israel and the United States, admitting his man-crush, by describing President Obama, as “cute.a€

Putin told the assembled group at his dacha in Novo-Ogaryovo that the next presidential transfer of power would proceed the same as the previous “election” when Putin chose current President Dmitry Medvedev to replace him at the expiration of his term.

“Was there any competition in 2007? No. Then we won’t have this in 2012,” Putin said. “We will agree because we are people of one stamp. We will take all these things into account and then decide,” added Putin.

If Putin does indeed decide to serve a repeat turn as president, he would remain a fixture in Kremlin politics, at least until 2024. The Medvedev presidency has been largely dwarfed by Putin’s commanding presence and power, with his most recent comments adding to the weakening of Medvedev’s power base.

Regarding President Obama, Putin believes he has good intentions in the relations between the two countries, providing him with “modest optimism.” Later, Putin said President Obama struck him as “cute.”

On Iran, Putin supported the Islamic country’s right to develop its nuclear capabilities, but said Iran needs to proceed cautiously. “Iran should exercise responsibility and remove concern on the part of Israel and the international community as a whole,” Putin said.

Relations with Israel took a negative turn this week with reports that components of a Russian S300 anti-aircraft system had been found on a ship headed for Iran.
