Experienced diplomat Alexander Micovčin has become the new Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the Kingdom of Thailand, with concurrent accreditation to the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Republic of the Union oHe previously served as Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and as Deputy Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the European Union in Brussels. Since joining the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic in 1994, he has represented Slovakia at diplomatic missions in Denmark, Kenya, Germany and the United Arab Emirates. Within the Ministry, he also served as Director General of the Department for Economic and Development Cooperation and the Department for European Affairs.
Ambassador Micovčin brings over 30 years of diplomatic experience to the Southeast Asian region, which remains a key priority for Slovakia’s economic diplomacy. Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar are all members of ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations), which is recognised as one of the most successful regional integration projects in the world after the European Union.f Myanmar.
In addition to the Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic in Laos, based in Vientiane, Slovakia plans to open new honorary consulates in southern Thailand (based in Phuket) and in Cambodia (based in Phnom Penh).
