Flash News:
Foreigners from third countries could receive national visas in the field of transport for a maximum of one year instead of the original period of 180 days. This concerns the profession of bus driver or heavy goods vehicle driver, or truck driver in international transport. This follows from the draft regulation of the Slovak government on the granting of national visas for foreigners from third countries, which was submitted by the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family (MLSAF) of the Slovak Republic for interdepartmental commenting. "The aim of this amendment is to increase the stability of employment of foreigners in the territory of the Slovak Republic and reduce the rate of worker fluctuation, which in practice has manifested itself as a problem with the short-term, six-month visa granting regime. The granting of a national visa according to the draft regulation will be in the interest of Slovakia until December 31, 2026 without the possibility of its re-granting," the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family stated in the submission report, adding that a maximum of 5,000 national visas should be granted. The current validity of national visas for foreigners from third countries for a period of 180 days has proven to be insufficient, according to the ministry, both in terms of the needs of employers and the stabilization of the workforce. By extending this period, foreign workers will have sufficient time for adaptation and vocational training, which should reduce the need for their frequent replacement. "According to the experience of employers, it takes approximately one year for a new worker to fully participate in the work process and become independent without the need for intensive supervision. At the same time, it is expected that the extension of the visa period will reduce the incentive for speculative use of the visa regime and strengthen trust in the system of managed arrival of the workforce," the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs added. This change could apply from 1 January 2026.odkaz na stránku
