| New Slovak Ambassador to the Philippines
The Slovak Republic is opening a new Representative Office of the Slovak Republic in the Republic of the Philippines with accreditation for the Republic of Palau. It is sending experienced diplomat Miloš Koterec to head it.
In the past, he represented Slovakia as a permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, he also served at the Permanent Mission of the Slovak Republic to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Brussels, he was also the Chairman of the UN Economic and Social Council, the Ambassador for Financing Development Cooperation and the European Union's Global Gateway Strategy, and the Ambassador for Technology and Innovation in Finland. At the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, he headed the then Department of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Disarmament and the Council of Europe, he also headed the Office for Slovaks Living Abroad, he was State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic, Diplomatic Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic for Investments and Informatization, and also a Member of the European Parliament.
The Indo-Pacific region is an attractive area for Slovakia with significant foreign policy, economic and human potential. With a population of 120 million and dynamic economic growth, the Philippines offers opportunities in both the economic and investment areas.
“By opening the Slovak Embassy in the Philippines, we confirm the fulfillment of one of the priorities of the Slovak government to intensify our cooperation in the Indo-Pacific,” emphasized the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár.
According to him, the Philippines, like Malaysia, where the Slovak Republic also opened a new embassy, is a member of the second most successful regional grouping of countries after the European Union – the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which they will also chair in 2026.
The Republic of the Philippines is undergoing significant changes and what was originally an agricultural country has transformed into an economy with a higher share of services and the processing industry. Together with ambitious infrastructure plans aimed at improving accessibility through railways, bridges and airports and strengthening water management, it represents a potential for new investments.
"At the same time, we want to support the development of trade and economic activities in areas with higher added value, such as research and innovation, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. We also see promising opportunities in sharing expertise in meteorology, as the Philippines has extremely intensive experience with extreme natural elements, such as typhoons, earthquakes and droughts," explained the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The intention of the new Slovak Ambassador to the Philippines, Miloš Koterec, is to create key contacts at both the state and business levels.
"Slovak-Philippine mutual trade reached 64.7 million euros last year, which does not meet its capacity. We will therefore actively assist in its increase, including through business missions, seminars, B2B negotiations and also by initiating efforts to complete the contractual and legal basis," said M. Koterec and in this context informed about the intensive negotiations between the EU and the Philippines on a free trade agreement, the successful completion of which next year will significantly expand the export and investment opportunities of EU countries on the Philippine market.
The Embassy of the Slovak Republic, in cooperation with the honorary consular offices of the Slovak Republic in Manila and Cebu, will also ensure the provision of quality consular services for citizens of the Slovak Republic.Bratislava November 25, 2025 link to the page |
