| The US government is removing nearly 30 career diplomats from their ambassadorial or other senior positions at embassies. The decision also applies to Slovakia, the Associated Press reported on Sunday, citing US State Department officials.
Heads of diplomatic missions in at least 29 countries were told last week that their terms would end in January next year, two US State Department officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity about the internal personnel decisions.
In Europe, the move also affects Montenegro, North Macedonia and Slovakia. Other changes are expected in Africa, Asia and the Americas.
All of these diplomats took up their posts under former US President Joe Biden, but remained in them during the recall in the first months after Trump returned to the White House, which was mainly aimed at political nominees.link to page |
